Q. Explain the story “How Much Land Does a Man Need?”

Introduction

Leo Tolstoy (1828–1910) was a famous Russian writer and moral thinker. His stories often deal with human nature, morality, greed, love, and the search for a meaningful life. “How Much Land Does a Man Need?” is one of his well-known short stories. It gives a strong message about greed, unlimited desires, and the importance of contentment.

1. Beginning of the Story

The story is about a peasant named Pahom. He believes that if he owns more land, he will have a better and more peaceful life.

At first, Pahom is satisfied with his small piece of land. However, slowly his desire for more land begins to grow.

2. Pahom's Growing Greed

Pahom starts buying more land and becomes financially better. But instead of becoming satisfied, he wants more and more land.
